"Finding a great colorist is like finding religion!" muses actress Sharon Lawrence. And who is the guru responsible for Sharon's honeyed tresses? L.A. stylist Romi Cortier. An artist as well as a stellar hairstylist, Romi brings a painter's eye for color and precision to his clients' hair, as well as expertise amassed in the salons of Europe and stateside. When he's not a stylist on the set, Romi welcomes clients at his chic, jewel-box salon on Larchmont Boulevard, Romi Cortier Design. He and his work have been featured in Glamour, People, InStyle, LA Times, and The Hollywood Reporter, as well as on Access Hollywood and the Style Network.
Trained in London and his native Seattle, Cortier demonstrated early on in his career an innate creativity that found him not only styling his own rapidly expanding clientele, but acting as salon artistic director, styling wigs at the Seattle Opera, organizing photo shoots and traveling the country cutting and styling at major hair shows.
"I think allowing myself all those forms of expression inspired me to be a better stylist because I learned to approach it as an art," explains Cortier. "Hair coloring, for example, I picked up very quickly because of my background as an oil painter."
Cortier continues, " For me, it's an intuitive process, a feeling that comes from listening and understanding. In a color consultation, for example, I use my color swatches and let my eye tell me what's right. Certain colors will bring out different tones in the skin and eyes, and adding these different colors can dramatically change your face's palette.
